  1. They have great food... Everything my wife and I have tasted has always been fantastic! I don't think I could pick just one favorite item, they're all amazing. Congratulations to Katie on all her accomplishments and what she does for St. Louis!
  2. ST. LOUIS, MO--(Marketwired - December 07, 2016) - 2016 marks an exciting year for Chef Ben Grupe of St. Louis restaurants Elaia and Olio, who as Team Captain, lead the American Culinary Federation (ACF) Culinary National Team USA to rank fourth in the world overall and take home three gold medals in the 24th Internationale Kochkunst Ausstellung (IKA) International Culinary Exhibition, known as the "culinary Olympics." Taking place October 22-25 in Erfurt, Germany, team USA showcased amazing talent under Grupe's leadership, Executive Chef of the Bengelina Hospitality Group sister restaurants. It's a proud moment for the U.S. culinary community, and for the city of St. Louis, as the team of six accomplished chefs, with Grupe at the helm, displayed ardent competition and passion for American cuisine. ACF Culinary National Team USA achieved three gold medals during this year's "culinary Olympics," including one gold medal in the Hot Kitchen Programme, one gold medal in the Culinary Art (cold food) Programme, and an additional gold medal for earning the top score in the world in the Culinary Art Programme. Out of 30 teams competing during the global competition, Grupe and the entire Team USA is honored to have placed fourth in the world during the rigorous three-day event. This is the second "culinary Olympic" term for Grupe, having participated on Team USA in 2012 and then receiving the honorable position of Team Captain for 2016. Grupe set his sights on the "culinary Olympics" early on in his career, where mentoring chefs during his time in The Greenbrier Culinary Apprenticeship Program were involved and encouraged him to do the same. Greenbrier fostered a healthy competitive environment, preparing Grupe for the rigorous selection process when the time came to try out for Team USA 2012. During Grupe's first term, he was eager to raise the bar for excellence and as Team Captain in 2016, he embraced his responsibilities including liaising between the team and the coaches and ensuring the team's operation ran smoothly. 6. It's cold outside, then wife is off at boot camp, the kids are still asleep.... Ahhh.... Start a pot of coffee and make a breakfast to be proud of... even if those fruity o's are tasty. This morning, made Wenneman Hickory Smoked Bacon, Wenneman Maple breakfast links, Wenneman Liver Sausage, and Farm Fresh Eggs....
  7. Hmm.... 96% of all health dept inspections resulted in "A" grade rating, even when roaches were found in the kitchen in Delmar Chop Suey. They didn't hit on any bigger restaurants in the story, just the two asian resaturants. Wow, the health dept Grade Rating is interesting: A 100 - 85 B 84 - 71 C 70 - and below Kind of makes you think twice.... I guess just use good judgement and eat at fine restaurants, well established, but there are no guarantees...
  8. Good show Mike, too bad they couldn't overlook the rice for the creativity you brought forth compared to Bobby Flay
  9. Sounds great, can you give us a "taste" of what items may be on the specials? You guys do some great things at 1111, I'm sure I'll have to add this to our calendar
  10. One of my favorite butcher shops in St. Louis is LeGrand's Market. They always have great fresh meats, most of which is locally sourced and their sandwiches in the deli are amazing. I have a hard time choosing my favorite one... but if I had to choose.... The McGuire sandwich use to be one of my favorites. There are so many great things in their shop and Jim, Jim Jr, Roger, Joe and the rest of the staff are always so helpful and generous with their time.

  14. Ha, Wenneman Bacon.... Gotta Love that stuff. I need to get some more and try this.. It looks great! Good job
  15. Has anyone eaten at the new Weber Grill in Clayton? I've never had a Delmonico cut ribeye, but was not expecting the piece that came out on my plate. Isn't the delmonico cut of the ribeye at the end of the ribeye loin? It was good, but not necessarily what I expected.. I look forward to any feedback... On a side note... the ENTIRE staff of servers, managers, etc was fantastic. If I ever owned a restaurant, that is the kind of friendly and enjoyable staff I'd want representing my business.
  16. Umm... I just drooled on my keyboard.... That looks sooooo good...
  17. I've been on their patio.... It is THE place to be on a nice afternoon or evening! They have great bacon burgers!!! Oh, and don't forget the seafood.... Great Food all around. Always a great time.
  18. Looking forward to this show... always great to see locals on prime tv shows. Good luck Mike!
  19. They've got great things going on over there.... Looking forward to the new brewery. Gotta love the food scene here in St. Louis!
