  1. I often have seafood there when I'm having dinner, however burgers at lunch. I have to agree that the burger meat has a certain off taste or "tang" to it that I did not like. Not sure what they changed... but I won't order another burger
  2. Wow, good question.... Kind of like the chicken and the egg conundrum. I consider it seafood and eat it on Fridays during lent, however prices have gone through the roof in the past year.
  3. A friend of mine has a Sous Vide device, not sure which mfgr or model. He always talks about it, about how much he likes and uses it. Can anyone recommend a good model for my home? I have heard a chef or two discredit others who use them... I've heard some chefs that love them... what are your thoughts? Recommendations? Thanks in advance.
  4. That was a great article. Good to know that it's possible for people to get truly local and fresh meats from a locally owned butcher shop. Keep up the good work!
  5. Is it possible for there to be a food shortage in the USA? I see the grocery store shelves being wiped out, meat department cases ravaged. I know that the demand for meats for restaurants has dwindled to nearly nothing, so I'm hoping this makes for a constant even demand for food supplies.... thoughts?
  6. I love smoked pork... not sure what it is about baby back ribs, spare ribs, St. Louis style ribs.... but I always seem to have to order them if they're available. I could go somewhere like Lester's which has a large selection in their menu, and I always get their ribs. Call me crazy.... (I love brisket too)
  7. Ha, that's funny stuff right there, folks. Maybe even though that Steak & Shakes are all closed, perhaps, no one told their social media department that their work is no longer needed.... Or is Steak & Shake only closing in the St. Louis region? Has anyone downloaded the app? I still think this is flat out funny!!!
  8. I stopped in over the weekend... Nice setting... Had all the basic smokehouse items, ribs, pulled pork, chicken, etc... I was impressed with the additional items like the scrambled egg toast though. Pretty creative and definitely worth a look on your own... After all the media hype, it had better be good. haa haa I'll be back, and bring friends
  9. This was my first visit to Elmwood.... We were a little early for our reservations, so the 4 of us grabbed a seat at the end of the bar... Our mixologist was amazing... he custom made drinks for our wives, and thoroughly entertained them. I wouldn't dare call them bar tenders... These guys were REALLY GOOD. We then were seated by a very pleasant server. He gave his recommendations, one of which was the beef kabob... Beef Short Rib Jerky Skewers... These things were amazing! I could have eaten a whole pound of this... or even 12 ounces of this, maybe over a bed of white rice... They were by far, everyone's favorite.... one reason I didn't get a pic of them.. We had a few other appetizers, but that one was by far the favorite. As for the entree's... my wife had the Mafalda - Grilled Vegetable Bolognese for $16, and she loved it, I ordered the pork steak, which was a 14 ounce pork steak, which came with a side of lettuce to make small wraps. I was disappointed because they offer a pork steak for $24, then the next steak option is $77 for a 22 ounce strip steak.... Unless you love fish, there's nothing in between... Heck, give me a bone in rib steak for $30... I can buy a raw pork steak for less than $2 per pound at the grocery store..... Yes... I was frustrated... although it tasted good... Overall, the wives loved it, however I wanted something more than a pork steak... I guess next time, I"ll just get the $15 burger.... unless they decide to offer the beef short rib meat on a bed of rice as an entree. I've attached pictures, but the lighting wasn't the best.....
  10. Interesting RFT review... I wonder if that writer still has their job.... hopefully they still do... Otherwise we need them in this forum for their honest reviews. Haa Haa Orrrrrr.... they can create an account with whatever username they want and can review however they'd like... not under the rules of their bosses.... Just an idea.... haaa haaa 🤣
  11. Sounds like a great deal! Only one bottler per entree, haa... Like I need to drink a whole bottle of wine with my meal.... But I guess we have to have limits.
  12. I've always called them bone in ribeyes.... I prefer my steak to have the bone in them too... that's the best part, by the bone in my opinion
  13. I agree, the Rhone Rum Bar is a lot of fun, and not your average bar scene. It's very welcoming, open, relaxing and fun. Did anyone try the ring games? It took me a while but I finally got one on my 17th try
  14. Old article, but I guess nothing really changes in bacon production, haa haa MMMMM Bacon!! 🥓🥓
  15. Sadly, now that you mentioned it, I can say I've noticed "something" different, and not in a good way. Not sure what has changed, but something is definitely different and not for the better.
  16. My wife and I often take advantage of the "Kids Eat Free" promotions that restaurants offer. I see that this section hasn't been updated lately, but I hope to see more restaurants with the Kids eat free promotions. My family will be sure to visit those restaurants.
  17. Well, another great success of Paul & Wendy Hamilton has been born. I finally got to Hamilton's Steakhouse this past week, and was highly satisfied. I love the small setting, limited seating feel. It gave my wife and I the feel of a high end private steak house. Everything was cooked perfectly, and we were visited several times by Hamilton manager Jason Arnold, several hostess as well as the exec chef. And I'm nobody important. I highly recommend!!!
  18. I did get to Molly's last year and enjoyed their patio!! I love the different levels, which give you a different "feel" or setting. Great food as well!! I can't wait for warmer weather to start this spring
  19. I agree, great to have a local butcher. Not sure where they get all their meat, but I did see that they have some local items: Miller Ham Wenneman bacon, boneless ham, hot dogs, cured summer sausage and Max German Braunschweiger. I just wish they carried Wenneman Krakow. (I'm not a fan of the overpriced Boars Head items though) There's always a line, and there's a reason for it.... great sandwiches!
  20. It was great to see Andrew Zimmern visit several of the great restaurants St. Louis has to offer. Smoki O's is definitely an out of the way location with truly fantastic smoked meats. I've met Earline on one of my visits, she was so kind and welcoming. She really made me feel welcomed and appreciated as a customer. I will definitely go back.
  21. I can hardly wait for the bacon prices to come back down... seems that they're nearly $2/lb (retail) higher than they should be this time of the year...
  22. Welcome Nancy L, I see some great chefs and restaurants signing up as well. Looks like this site is growing nicely! Nice to meet everyone!
